Job Description

  • Establishes controls to assure availability of supplies, services and materials at the lowest possible cost consistent with quality and delivery requirements.
  • Comply with all internal, federal and state laws and procedures in the processing and administration of purchase orders.
  • Determine potential sources of supply from approved vendor list and issue quotations.  Military/Commercial ISO 9000.
  • Negotiate costs, special terms and conditions, and delivery.
  • Acknowledges and expedites deliveries as necessary to meet operating requirements.
  • Forecasts trends in costs, lead times, etc.
  • Coordinate the disposition and return of rejected material and ensures timely replacement.
  • Maintain and update approved Vendor List to expand sources of supply.  Maintain Small and Disadvantaged business participation to meet annual goal.  (Military only)
  • Conducts visits and participates in vendors audits, e.g. facilities, capabilities, quality and support services.
  • Actively supports cost reduction programs generated by various functions.  Provides ongoing value analysis.
  • Establishes and maintains business relationships with suppliers.


  • 5+ years experience purchasing in a metal working industry e.g. Manufacturing Engineering, Cost Accounting, Production Control, etc.
  • Experience in Aerospace, Automotive, or Defense Industries strongly desired.
  • Experience procuring complex machined parts.
  • Ability to read blueprints and experience with mechanical and technical manufacturing processes.
  • General understanding of business accounting, R.O.I. methods, electronic data processing techniques.
  • Negotiating skills.
  • Exposure to value analysis techniques.
  • Exposure to state and federal procurement desirable.
